I have so much work to do, it’s not even funny, but while I’m waiting on a NAV update to run I’ll fling my boring life in 1s and 0s to the universe at large.
About a week ago I decided to sell my car. I thought it was dying (turns out the car is fine and just needed it’s fuses reseated) and I started vehemently looking for a new ride. I have decided on a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon. It’s a sexy little car but dealerships are ROYAL prats. I want the GT, V6, Automatic, Stitched seat inserts, 360 Watt Stereo (sub!), ABS, Black on Black, no sunroof if at all possible.
Apparently, I have asked for the most IMPOSSIBLE combination of parts because all the dealers go “Uhhhhh…” and their eyes glaze over and I can visualize the drool pooling at the corner of their lips. I was pretty adamant about the no sunroof but seeing as how I am not willing to budge on the stereo and it’s part of some lame package, I will probably deal with it. I’m talking to FIVE dealers…the farthest away one is 115 miles. Have I mentioned I really want a new car?
The problem with my Bug is this. To get your money out of a used car you must either 1. pay cash for it, 2. find an awesome deal and be able to pay it off in a hurry, or 3. Pay on it for 5 years and then when things start breaking you fix them out of your pocket.
This is not a good situation because by the time you have it paid off…the car isn’t worth shit or you have pumped so much money into it you are ready to push it off of a cliff. The time is coming in the Beetle’s life when it’s going to start needing maintenance. I have another few years to pay on it. I’m really not ready for that kind of…hassle. I want a new car with a warranty that is going to have some value after I pay it off. There isn’t anything wrong with my car(paint is good, body is good, mechanicals are good, electricals are good) and some people have asked me why not just keep it. So there is my reasoning.
Every used car is a gamble; You have to know when to fold and collect your winnings.
