I contacted Atlanta Bread Company on Saturday to see what on their menu was vegan and what wasn’t. Sadly, my tomato soup of DELIGHT is so not vegan. Happily, my favorite bread, nine grain, is.
They were very responsive to my concerns and reacted positively; they had a fact sheet all ready to go and everything. The nice woman who responded directly to me also sent me a copy of the nutritional information for the tomato soup. This means that I now have allllll the ingredients for this soup and can make it at home…in a large pot….and eat it all with a straw while I watch Blades of Glory on Friday. Propylene Glycol Monostearate….what in the hell is that….

Hah. And now for your edification:

Hugo and I are both feeling under the weather a little. Probably due to overwork and lack of sleep. We’ve been fortunate to be able to catch up a little the past day or so but I am definitely looking forward to the weekend.

Good gracious, day 14. A while back I would never have thought I could make it this long and here I am… 2 weeks. Today, I made CoK’s “Chicken” Salad. It really kicks ass. I loves it.

I am actually managing to save money as a vegan. I was eating out on the road at least once a day. Now I’m snackin on nuts and water while rollin down the road. Comparatively, I just don’t eat out right now…at all…the end. I’m buying fresh fruit and veg and eating it instead of putting it in the fridge and forgetting about it. I’m doing lots of cooking at home with staples and spices instead of relying on processed food.

I believe this is a good choice. I’m so sleepy right now.. it’s 1:30am and would I love to be in bed right now? Yes I would.

We went out to an Italian restaurant for dinner. I love this place and their family has been feeding mine since I was a kid. Normally I get cheese ravioli that is smothered in this delicious pureed tomato sauce; it’s divine. Not Vegan, however, so I opt for spicy marinara (seriously craving spicy lately) over ziti. I really hate it when I order something spicy and the server is condescending and says to me “You know that’s spicy right?” Yes, yes I would imagine that SPICY Marinara as it reads here on this menu in English, my native tongue, would indeed be somewhat spicy. Ok so it’s not ALL in English. I had to have Hugo explain to me what aioli meant. (barf btw)

Spicy marinara is self explanatory. When it got to the table it was about 9000° so I had to wait and wait and wait before I could eat. The heat from the spices wasn’t like eating a pepper or something where it throws you on the floor and sits on your chest, it was the kind that built the more you ate. Not very exciting. Every time I took a sip of my water, it was over and I had to start building to the heat again. I’m not sure if the waitress told them to make it horribly hot or not hot at all, but I didn’t break a sweat. It did clear my sinuses though.

It wasn’t the sauce I was expecting though. I wanted the pureed tomato sauce of fire and instead it was giant chunks of stewed tomatoes, giant chunks of garlic, and a shit load of some sort of pepper. I wasn’t terribly impressed so next time I’ll have to be more specific.
