Treo Post

April4

I think I’ll finally be able to get setup here now that I have all that mobile posting figured out and such. The I said on Protocol-7 that I was going to write a “review” on the Treo 650. So now here it is.

We chose Cingular as our carrier and I’ve been happy with them.

The touch screen is nice although hard to use while driving and trying not to get yourself killed. The number buttons on the thumbboard are itty and it’s easy to hit the wrong one.

I don’t have any problem instant messaging or typing and after nearly a month using the symbols doesn’t slow me down as much as it did at first.

I love having a Palm because I am a list fiend. I have my agenda pop up in gorgeous color at the press of a button and I can check things off and make them dissappear when I complete them. Very satisfying indeed.

The internet access is ok. It’s nice to read blogs while I’m anywhere in the Cingular network. We have unlimited data and I’m terrified that our bill is going to be like OMG we didn’t really mean unlimited all the time! At which point Hugo will probably disembowel someone. Ouch.

We all have 10mbit read and 9mbit write SD cards that are 1GB in size. Haven’t figured out the mp3 player, but I don’t plan on ever using the Treo for my audio needs.

The device does attract an excessive amount of attention. I’m not one for flashing my plastic bling around because I’m small and mean people hit hard. When my phone rings and people are around they notice the thumbboard light up and that I answer it by touching the screen. Then the questions…

We got the bluetooth adapters for the G4s in the office and while it’s convenient to be rid of an extra wire to connect the Treo to the computer to sync it, it is not convenient to wait 15 minutes while it goes through the odd Bluetooth Mating Dance, rendering my Palm Desktop and my phone useless.

Our headsets suck. I hate them. They fall off my ear because they are huge and they hate me back. I will be getting a motorola something or other very soon.

The OS is buggy, I don’t like that there isn’t a way to restart the damn thing without opening the case and removing the battery, the touch screen can be annyoingly unresponsive and then aggravatingly sensitive at times.

All in all, it’s a slick gadet. If you have a ton of information you need to keep on you and remember, they rock. Otherwise, there are normal flip phones that are 1. Cheaper and 2. Do The Same Shit (Mostly).
