by bekabug
Edition #003
- Poe Toaster - For the 58th straight year, a mysterious visitor left birthday cognac and roses at Edgar Allan Poe’s grave Friday.
- The Duck That Lived
- Zeus Worshippers Demand Access To Temple
- Can we fucking bury James Brown already!?
- I finished reading Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. Verdict: eh.
- i ordered a metric assload of books that should be here tuesday.
- my camera should also be here tuesday but it looks like, from the fedex tracker, that it is still in New Jersey. hustle people.
- hugo agreed to buy me a cabin in Portland when we’re rich and retired. i think he may think i was kidding.
- I really wish this place had a fireplace i could use
- I bought a Trek bike. Navigator 2.0 WSD. More on that later.
- I am starting to get REALLY tired. The good thing about Sundays? Hello Kitty Sheets.
- hugo and i finally decided on some house stuff. dark tile for foyer, hall, kitchen, & bathroom. angico hardwood for bedrooms. white baseboards. neutral wall colors. wenge bedroom set. it is going to come together very nicely.
- AFI IN 2 WEEKS

Thirteen Things That Inspire Me
by bekabug
Edition #002
- Maya Angelou - the way this woman carries herself fills me with awe. her wisdom and unfaltering grace make me want to be a better person.
- The sermons of Martin Luther King Jr. - i appreciate what he tried to do for all oppressed people, not focusing JUST on the racial issues, but also issues of the poor and underprivileged classes of America. i wonder what our world would look like if he hadn’t been murdered.
- Sara Sutterfield Winn - The Gospel Pagan, amusing, inspired, and intelligent. I always enjoy reading her blog. She makes me want to beat the world with a fix-it stick until it’s all better.
- Real Simple Magazine - Because I am a closeted housewife. I want to be a cross between June Cleaver and Betty Page. I want to have an organized junk drawer.
- Kara: The Lonely Falcon - A gift from my Nana on my confirmation. It is about a falcon who makes a conscious decision not to kill for food. A very sweet story and a inspired a turning point in my consciousness in more ways than one.
- VegWeb.com - The first place I ever read about vegetarianism as a lifestyle for humans many, many, years ago while surfing on my Nana’s AOL dialup account. This was before my father allowed me on the internet but Nana just rocked like that.
- Nana (Feb 14 1936 - July 21 2006) - She instilled within me a love of books. Fostered my odd tendencies during childhood which turned out to be large parts of my daily life. There were other things though, like her diabetes…that she didn’t take care of properly. That was just her though. She did what she damn well pleased…even to her detriment. I’ve taken away from that that you can do what you please, but you need to be mindful of self care. I miss my Nana and now I hold *all* of my relationships in much higher regard.
- Grim - His constant drive and ambition to suceed, learn, and grow is something that excites me. He is also a tether to reality, calling me on my bullshit when needed. Aside from his light hearted jabs at my shopping bags, he nurtures my ideas and is always encouraging me to stay positive. All the while, he’s cooking up a batch of the T-virus to wipe out all of mankind; his dream come true.
- Vegetarian Boullion Cubes - So versatile! So flavorful! Makes me want to cook…a lot.
- The Body Sacred by Dianne Sylvan - This book was the beginning of my spritual body lovin crusade. it’s the reason i eat raw food whenever i can and why i bought a gym.
- Ani Difranco - This woman kicks so much ass. Her lyrics speak to me and inspire within me a deep urge to find my voice, join the harmony, and say something too.
- Heather & Jon Armstrong - Their photography is gorgeous. they are both yuppies to the max, but we don’t like labels around here so i ignore their cliches and see them for two awesome people that seem to be rather talented, amusing, and they make cute babies.
- Everyone I have ever had to throw out of my life - they have inspired me to strive for healthy relationships not built on insecurity, pity, or any other stupid thing. i wish the best for them all AND for myself.
Coming up next week! 13 things that scare the shit out of me and make me long for the zombie invasion!

Thirteen Things All About Fondue
by bekabug
Edition #001
- Tomato Fondue: Sounds very pizza-ish and i’m seeing myself dipping onion bagels into this.
- Dilled Garbonzo Fondue: I love garbonzo beans and dill. i can’t see how this could go wrong…except i may be able to live without the nutmeg.
- Laåu haûi saûn: vietnamese seafood hot pot dish. our diet has been decidedly pesco-vegetarian as of late and so far from vegan it is really quite sad. it would be nice if i could find a somewhere to eat lunch that didn’t smother things in cheese and salt or make a totally insane mess out of spare sandwich parts and call it a veggie. enough excuses, i just suck.
- Mushroom Fondue: it’s vegan! +5 points.
- Lunchbox Fondue: oh the possibilities of noncheese cheese.
- Reese’s Fondue: because a fondue list isn’t complete without chocolate.
- Mongolian Hotpot: i think doing vegetables in this and a few substitions here and there would make this rad.
- Mexican Fondue: anything that gives me an excuse to eat avacados is just fine with me.
- Hot Raspberry Dip: i am conflicted as most of these dippables are in season during the summer, but who wants to eat hot goo when it’s 95 outside?
- My Fondue Pot: cause burning the house down with sterno is bad.
- Beer Cheese Fondue: !!! i just realized this would be awesome to dip the morning star farms breakfast sausages in. as an aside, what in the hell is nonalcoholic beer and more importantly, what would be the point of that?
- Thai Coconut-Lime Fondue: another one that would be completely hit or miss. i would probably sub the pork with some ginger marinated tofu cubes that had been pan seared.
- Camembert and Pesto Fondue: not sure how to feel about that one.
