Time Management
[edit: needs revision; sounds like drunken hummingbirds wrote this.]
Definition: Time management is a set of principles, practices, skills, tools, and systems that work together to help you get more value out of your time with the aim of improving the quality of your life.
I adore time management because the thought that I can manage time is comforting to me. This is not to be confused with an obsession over controlling my time because that is just not possible. Time management is 80% self-discipline, 20% technique.
Managing my actions along a time line helps me to stay mindful of the present moment.
I enjoy ritual of most forms and don’t consider consistency to be boring. Being organized is one of the best feelings I can experience on a daily basis that is a direct result of my actions…aside from surfing porn for an hour. As a result, I have been obsessed with planner pages since I was a little girl.
The HTC podcast gave me some Ohmwork to contemplate regarding Time Management, so, of course, I had to indulge.
1. Ask yourself “What is the most valuable use of my time at this moment?”
Organize a flow chart of my web design and development practices. Start to finish; SEO, Color selection, copy proofing, everything.
2. What is your morning ritual?
In a perfect world…Morning devotion, yoga, brew tea, read news, plan day, shower, do doggie “stuff”, drink v8, take super b vitamin, grab another v8 and vitamin and give it to hugo, check email server logs, mark actionable items for attending to later, get my daily schedule. By the time this has all happened it’s about 10:30am.
3. How do you stay on track with your goals?
I have a kitchen timer with a start/pause button that I set for 1 hour. I give myself goals to accomplish within that hour. If something comes up and I have to leave or anything happens that would completely break my focus, I will pause the timer. It helps me stay mindful of what I must get done during the day and keeps me on track. Also it makes me realize that after 8 times of smacking it, I’ve put in a full days work and I can feel good about getting up from my desk. ![]()
