holiday

i wanted to do the best of 2006 meme that seems to be floating around the blogosphere, but the truth is i didn’t really read a whole lot this year. I read books like the 15th edition harbrace and the design basics index. i also did a lot of magazine reading. i read the da vinci code which was interesting, but it wouldn’t really belong on a best of list. running with scissors was total crap…i did read that and hated every second of it.

tom waits came out with a new collection and loreena mckennitt released her first album in 9 years. the new tool album, 10,000 days, rocked me to sleep on more than one occasion. of course i couldn’t have this paragraph here without mentioning DECEMBERUNDERGROUND. i don’t know what else to say about it other than i love those boys. ani recorded and released an album that was very much about katrina and her time living in and leaving new orleans. it was typically political, dripping with feminism, and i loved every second of it. red letter year breaks my heart every time i hear it.

i read a new earth by eckhart tolle, which is hard to recommend to people. books on the evolution of consciousness and spirituality are hit or miss, but this one was quite good.

i didn’t waste much time on fiction this year. reality was a little too engaging.

i’ve got something to write but i can’t yet. this year hurt and the best thing about it is it’s almost over.

i’m going to make a list of things i want to do in 2007. like read lolita, hannibal rising, and anansi boys. reread some things like the circle within and charlottes web. take my frustration out on the treadmill instead of my fists. play in the dirt more often.

but not today. i’m just too sad.

happy holiday everyone.
