Feeding The Spiders

A girl, a guy, 2 dogs and some code

it’s not pretty but it works

celebrate

Yesterday was our FOURTH anniversary. Hugo kept asking “Are you sure it’s been four years? It doesn’t seem that long…” Yes..four years. 1460 days, give or take a few. Time flies when you’re having fun, blacked out drunk, or severely sleep deprived.

cinderella

I have been productive today but it doesn’t look it. I hate that more than anything. I’m tired, worked my butt off, and no one can tell.

  • removed oven racks, left them on the porch in a bag of ammonia for the evening
  • removed stove knobs and scrubbed them down
  • removed drip pans, scrubbed
  • removed the range fan filter and cleaned it (yuck, seriously. this hadn’t been done in…4 years+)
  • dusted my bedroom
  • had my oil changed

And plenty more that I could yammer on about, but I won’t. I’m re-reading House Works because I want to get this place to some point of order, but I don’t know if it is going to happen before we move or not. I am so excited to get out of here but I am also nervous as well. It is perfectly clean…new floors, new paint, older owner…and if we’re there a week and it is filth-ville I’ll feel like a total jackass-failure. People agree with me that this house is hard to keep clean. 1. the carpet was filthy before the dogs 2. you can’t mop subflooring 3. there is wood…in the hallway. 4. we have 2 goofy dogs and no back door. dirt goes from outside to inside immediately.

All this will change when the doggies are living in the downstairs part of the house and Hugo and I are living upstairs. I love them but I really can’t keep up with it. If I can show myself that I can keep the new house clean then maybe they can come upstairs after they have had a bath or … something.

furnished

Speaking of the new house… I am frustrated with the furniture situation. The current situation is that, essentially, we have no furniture. My bed is on a futon frame, I’m using a hand me down night stand, and a walmart book case. I have picked out a lot of pieces I thought were nice and that we could live with and enjoy. Then Hugo asks that I speak to a friend of ours who decorates peoples homes before I buy anything.

I don’t mean to be a twerp but……what? So he says to me, “It’s just that I like really clean lines and I think you two could have fun.” You tell me, internet…

My Bedroom
Bookcases for my room
Sofa, love seat, chair (this was my first choice but … he hates green.)
Living room tables (all 3)
Dining room table, 4 chairs, hutch and buffet
Foyer

Sorry, but aside from tubular steel and glass, lines don’t get much cleaner.
My style is definitely more natural maple and steel, but I don’t think it is going to work for this house…definitely not with white carpet (wtf). It would look like a washed out photo.

Also…there will be things hanging on the walls at this house.

Foyer
Kitchen 1
Foyer Half Bath
Hall Bathroom
My Bedroom

That’s about enough dreaming for one day. It will probably take us 20 years to get settled…
