Vegan Challenge - Day 13
We went out to an Italian restaurant for dinner. I love this place and their family has been feeding mine since I was a kid. Normally I get cheese ravioli that is smothered in this delicious pureed tomato sauce; it’s divine. Not Vegan, however, so I opt for spicy marinara (seriously craving spicy lately) over ziti. I really hate it when I order something spicy and the server is condescending and says to me “You know that’s spicy right?” Yes, yes I would imagine that SPICY Marinara as it reads here on this menu in English, my native tongue, would indeed be somewhat spicy. Ok so it’s not ALL in English. I had to have Hugo explain to me what aioli meant. (barf btw)
Spicy marinara is self explanatory. When it got to the table it was about 9000° so I had to wait and wait and wait before I could eat. The heat from the spices wasn’t like eating a pepper or something where it throws you on the floor and sits on your chest, it was the kind that built the more you ate. Not very exciting. Every time I took a sip of my water, it was over and I had to start building to the heat again. I’m not sure if the waitress told them to make it horribly hot or not hot at all, but I didn’t break a sweat. It did clear my sinuses though.
It wasn’t the sauce I was expecting though. I wanted the pureed tomato sauce of fire and instead it was giant chunks of stewed tomatoes, giant chunks of garlic, and a shit load of some sort of pepper. I wasn’t terribly impressed so next time I’ll have to be more specific.
